With several types of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology available for your business, which one should you choose? This rundown of DSL types and how they differ should help sort things out:
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)
- Provides relatively high bandwidth for downloads
- Limits bandwidths for uploads (asymmetric)
- Is preferred for residential use
- Allows consumers to enjoy high-bandwidth entertainment (video, CD-quality audio, and interactive gaming) at a relatively low cost
- Is more sensitive to distance than some other DSL technologies
Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL)
- Supports businesses that need the same high-speed data rates for both uploads and downloads through Internet servers
- Allows data to flow at the same speed, whether it's being uploaded or downloaded (symmetric)
- Provides the ability to quickly upload and download even large files
- Is the preferred business technology
- Ensures high-quality video conferencing and the high-speed transfer of large files and email attachments in either direction
- Is best suited for businesses (e.g., advertising agencies, law practices, etc.) that depend on the efficient transfer of large files across the Internet or across a LAN
